Anandan PP, from Kerala, is concerned about his wife, Sheeja Anandan, who is currently undergoing surgery at a hospital in Israel’s Ashkelon. Sheeja, who has been working as a caretaker for an elderly Israeli woman for the past 1.5 years, was injured by shards of rockets during the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas. Anandan explains that his wife is unable to move or sit and has already undergone multiple surgeries on her back, leg, and chest. While India has begun repatriating its citizens from Israel, Anandan has a special request for the government–he wants to be allowed to meet his wife in Israel, as she is not currently medically fit to return to India. NDTV reporters visited Ashkelon, located near the Gaza Strip, and witnessed the distress and anxiety experienced by the locals due to the constant threat of Hamas rockets intercepted by the Iron Dome.
