The Punjab and Haryana High Court criticized the Punjab government and police for their inaction in addressing the drug problem in the state. The court observed that there is collusion between the drug mafia and the police, as police personnel rarely appear as witnesses. The judges expressed suspicion against the police when government witnesses, who are police personnel, do not testify for years. The state police chief and the government were reprimanded for their failure to address the issue, particularly considering Punjab’s status as a border state. The judges demanded an apology from the police chief and immediate action. They emphasized that the government should not simply make assurances but should demonstrate action. The judges also urged the government to organize its affairs and provided a timeframe for taking action.
