Two Israeli police officers were injured in a shooting incident in Jerusalem on Thursday, with the gunman being neutralized, according to a statement by the police. Videos showed security personnel patrolling the streets with their guns drawn, while ambulances and police vehicles rushed to the scene. The incident occurred amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza, which has entered its sixth day. The death toll has surpassed 3,700, with the Palestinian Health Ministry reporting that at least 447 children and 248 women are among the 1,417 people killed in Israel’s airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.

During a joint press conference in Tel Aviv, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed unwavering US support for Israel’s campaign against Hamas. However, he also acknowledged the “legitimate aspirations” of the Palestinians that are not represented by the militant group. Blinken assured Israel that the US would always be there to support and defend them.

In a display of military support, the UK has announced plans to send two Royal Navy ships to the eastern Mediterranean and conduct surveillance flights over Israel. This move aims to reassure Israel amidst the ongoing conflict.
