UK Foreign Minister James Cleverly, visiting Israel to express solidarity after the deadly attacks by Hamas, had to seek shelter when a rocket attack siren sounded on Wednesday. Cleverly said this incident gave him a brief understanding of what millions of Israelis face every day.

A video shows Cleverly hurriedly finding cover in a building in the south of Israel’s Okafim region as the siren blared in the background.

In a post on X, Cleverly shared the video and wrote, “Today I’ve seen a glimpse of what millions experience every day. The threat of Hamas rockets lingers over every Israeli man, woman, and child. This is why we are standing shoulder to shoulder with Israel.”

According to a spokesperson from the British Foreign Office, Cleverly, who arrived in Israel on Wednesday morning, met with survivors of the attacks and held meetings with senior Israeli leaders to express Britain’s support for the country’s right to self-defense, as reported by news agency Reuters.

During the meeting with Israeli leaders, the ongoing security, military, and diplomatic cooperation between the United Kingdom and Israel was discussed. The minister also visited Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and southern Israel.

The UK has publicly supported Israel in its conflict with Gaza, which has resulted in the deaths of 3,600 people since it began on Saturday.

In a joint statement issued on Monday alongside the US, France, Germany, and Italy, the UK expressed its unwavering support for Israel and condemned Hamas unequivocally.

The statement read, “We make clear that the terrorist actions of Hamas have no justification, no legitimacy, and must be universally condemned. There is never any justification for terrorism… Our countries will support Israel in its efforts to defend itself and its people against such atrocities. We further emphasize that this is not a moment for any party hostile to Israel to exploit these attacks to seek advantage.”

Numerous British media outlets have reported that 17 individuals, including children, are feared dead or missing in Israel.
