A 34-year-old male nanny has been sentenced to a maximum of 690 years to life for molesting 16 boys and showing another boy pornography, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Matthew Zakrzewski, a resident of Costa Mesa, has been found guilty of 34 felonies, including 27 counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under the age of 14, two counts of oral copulation of a child under 10, and one count of possession of child pornography. Additionally, he faces charges of using a minor for sex acts, distributing pornography to a minor for sexual conduct, and an attempted lewd or lascivious act with a minor under 14.
Zakrzewski was found guilty of all 34 charges by a jury. District Attorney Todd Spitzer expressed his sympathy for the young victims, stating, “These young boys were forced to endure unimaginable terror as a result of the ultimate betrayal by a babysitter.” He commended the victims and their parents for their bravery in coming forward and testifying against Zakrzewski, as well as protecting other children from potential harm.
Zakrzewski worked as a male nanny, advertising himself as “the original Sitter Buddy,” offering various babysitting services, mentorships, and overnight and vacation care. He described his passion for working with children and making a positive impact in their lives. However, his crimes took place between January 2014 and May 2019, during which he preyed upon multiple children under his care.
The investigation began in May 2019 when a Laguna Beach couple reported Zakrzewski for inappropriate touching of their eight-year-old son. This led to the discovery of a second victim in Los Angeles and ten more victims across Southern California.
Zakrzewski is set to be sentenced on November 17, 2023, at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. He faces a lengthy prison sentence, totaling 690 years to life, along with an additional eight-year term.
