Two men died and two others were seriously injured in a fierce fight in Delhi’s outer district on Saturday night. The police, however, argued over jurisdiction for hours while a dead body lay in a pool of blood on the road.
The clash erupted between two groups near Kargil Colony and Samta Vihar Colony of Mukundpur in outer Delhi over a dispute about phone snatching. The men attacked each other with knives and also fired bullets, resulting in the deaths.
The injured individuals were initially taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram hospital in Jahangirpuri for treatment but had to be transferred to a higher center as their conditions worsened.
One man named Azad was fatally stabbed, while two others suffered serious injuries. Another man named Himanshu was shot and killed.
The family members of the victims claim that the police were notified about the fight but did not arrive at the scene on time.
The attackers had lured Himanshu to a small bridge between Samta Vihar and Kargil Colony. When Himanshu arrived with some friends, they were ambushed by the men who were already present.
The police then engaged in a jurisdiction dispute, specifically between Burari and Bhalswa Dairy police station areas. This area has often been subject to border disputes, and the police have been accused of negligence, resulting in multiple crime incidents.
Officers from both police stations argued for several hours to determine whose jurisdiction the crime scene fell under, eventually settling on Bhalswa Dairy. Unfortunately, the body of a young man remained on the road, drenched in blood, during the entire argument.
