Strong tremors were felt in Delhi Tuesday after several earthquakes hit Nepal, including a 4.6 magnitude quake followed by a 6.2 magnitude quake within 25 minutes, a third quake of 3.8 magnitude after 15 minutes, and a fourth quake of 3.1 magnitude after 13 minutes. The first earthquake struck at 2.25 PM. Additionally, there was a 5.2 magnitude earthquake in Arunachal Pradesh at 3.27 PM and a 3.3 magnitude disturbance in Uttarakhand shortly after. The epicenter of the strongest quake was located 206 km southeast of Joshimath in Uttarakhand and 284 km north of Lucknow. Delhi and other parts of the national capital region felt the impact of the earthquake. People in Delhi-NCR reported strong tremors and evacuated office buildings. Videos of individuals rushing out of buildings were widely shared on social media. The Delhi Police issued a statement advising people to move to a safe spot and refrain from using elevators. Tremors were also felt in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, Hapur, and Amroha, as well as parts of Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Jaipur, and other parts of North India. There have been no reports of damage, injuries, or deaths so far. Nepal is located in a highly active seismic zone, making it susceptible to earthquakes. In April 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Nepal resulted in over 8,000 deaths and more than 21,000 injuries.
