Actor Ranbir Kapoor has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a case involving a gaming app. The ED alleges that Kapoor was paid a significant amount of money from the proceeds of a crime for promoting the app. The controversial app, named Mahadev Online Book App, is accused of facilitating illegal betting activities, including money laundering through benami bank accounts. The government’s new rules for online gaming prohibit any games involving betting and wagering.

The ED is reportedly investigating several other celebrities and actors in relation to this case, and they will also be summoned soon. Last month, the investigation agency seized assets worth Rs 417 crore (approximately $56 million) in connection with the online betting case. The company behind the app, owned by promoters from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, was allegedly operating multiple similar apps that collectively earned around Rs 200 crore ($27 million) per day.

According to the ED’s investigation, the gaming app is managed from a central head office in the UAE, with call centers in Sri Lanka and Nepal. The agency also claims that large amounts of cash are being spent in India to advertise betting websites and attract new users and panel seekers.

Ranbir Kapoor has been asked to appear before the ED on Friday for questioning in this ongoing case. The investigation is part of the government’s efforts to crack down on illegal betting and gambling activities in the country.
