The Cricket World Cup 2023 is on the horizon, with 10 teams competing for the coveted trophy. The batting department promises to be a fierce battle with some of the world’s best talents. Players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Steve Smith, David Warner, Jos Buttler, and Babar Azam will be looking to make the most of the Indian conditions and lead their teams to victory. Gautam Gambhir, former Indian cricketer and 2011 World Cup winner, has his eye on Rohit and Babar for something special this year.
Gambhir believes that Babar has the potential to score three or four centuries in the World Cup. It’s worth noting that Rohit scored an impressive five tons in the 2019 edition of the ODI World Cup.
“With the kind of ability he has, playing at home in the World Cup, we all know about Rohit Sharma’s record. He has three or four double centuries. So I’m sure he will be eager to turn it around for India,” Gambhir commented on Star Sports.
He further added, “Considering Babar Azam’s technique, I think he will score three or four centuries for Pakistan in this World Cup.”
Babar showcased his fine form in a World Cup warm-up match against New Zealand, scoring 80 runs as Pakistan posted a total of 300+. However, New Zealand managed to chase down the target with 38 deliveries to spare.
Pakistan may have an advantage in subcontinent conditions. However, the upcoming matches may bring different challenges.
