A woman and her child were stuck in heavy traffic in Fatuha, near Patna, inside an ambulance desperately seeking help. The child, who was fighting for their life, needed urgent medical attention. However, the police refused to let the ambulance proceed due to the impending arrival of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s convoy.
The woman pleaded with the policemen to allow them to pass, but her appeals fell on deaf ears. As time passed, the child’s condition worsened, and the woman couldn’t contain her emotions, breaking down in despair. Despite the critical situation, the ambulance was forced to wait for an hour until Nitish Kumar’s convoy finally passed through.
Nitish Kumar had been returning to Patna after inaugurating an ethanol factory in Nalanda. To ensure a smooth passage for the Chief Minister’s convoy, the Patna Police had halted all vehicles on the road. Unfortunately, the ambulance arrived at the same time as the traffic restrictions were put in place, leaving them stranded.
The ambulance driver repeatedly explained their urgency to the policemen, emphasizing that they needed to reach Patna from Fatuha quickly. However, despite witnessing the child’s deteriorating state and the mother’s distress, the police remained unmoved and refused to grant them passage.
This incident echoes a similar occurrence just a month ago in Patna, where another ambulance was halted to accommodate the Chief Minister’s convoy. Although the responsible policeman was identified, no disciplinary action was taken against them.
The callousness displayed by the authorities in prioritizing a political convoy over someone’s life is deeply concerning. It highlights the urgent need for improved protocols and compassion when it comes to emergency situations. Lives should never be jeopardized or put on hold for the convenience of political figures.
