Former Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja criticized the Pakistan cricket team for their performance in the warm-up match against New Zealand at the Cricket World Cup 2023. Despite a strong batting display, with Mohammad Rizwan scoring a century and Babar Azam adding 80 runs, Pakistan failed to defend their total of 345. Raja expressed concern about Pakistan’s habit of losing and highlighted the importance of their bowlers performing well on the big stage. He suggested that the team would need to score over 400 runs if their bowling continued to struggle. Raja also urged Pakistan to change their tactics and take more risks in their approach to the game. New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra and returning Kane Williamson played key roles in their team’s successful chase, with Ravindra scoring 97 and Williamson contributing 54. Pakistan’s attack, without their pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi, was unable to contain the Kiwi batsmen. Williamson, who returned from a knee injury, impressed in his innings before retiring out.
