The police have arrested one person in the brutal murder of a woman near the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal. The victim’s body was found tied up, with her throat slit and face burnt off in Gunrajpur village. The arrest was announced on Friday. The victim was a young Bangladeshi woman who used to work in a beauty parlour in Mumbai. Authorities suspect that she may have been killed for money, as she was returning home to Bangladesh with valuables. The police found a spectacle case with an address from Faridpur, Bangladesh, which helped them identify the victim. The man was arrested based on “technical intelligence” and more information is expected to emerge after interrogations. The cause of death has not been revealed, pending the postmortem report. The BJP has criticized the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal for not being able to control violence in the state. They suggested that criminals associated with the TMC could be behind the murder. BJP IT Cell Chief Amit Malviya also questioned whether Rahul Gandhi would condemn the failure to protect women in West Bengal.
