A Chinese woman is suing her daughter and son-in-law for $26,000 in compensation for raising their son for five years. The woman, identified as Duan, had been taking care of her grandson from February 2018 to July 2023 in Guangan City, Sichuan province. According to reports, the daughter and son-in-law, Hu and Zhu, were busy with work in Chengdu and provided Duan with a monthly stipend and childcare fee. However, after five years, Duan decided that she deserved additional compensation and requested $26,000 from the couple. They initially agreed to pay 50,000 yuan but failed to fulfill their promise, leading Duan to file a lawsuit. The court recognized Duan’s entitlement to a childcare fee but deemed her initial demand excessive and revised it to 82,500 yuan. Zhu claimed that Duan filed the lawsuit due to his ongoing divorce dispute. The story has garnered attention on Chinese social media, with many praising the grandmother for seeking proper compensation for her childcare services.
