India has officially reached the 100-medal mark in the Hangzhou Asian Games, marking a historic moment for the nation. The Indian contingent surpassed their previous record of 70 medals from the last edition in Indonesia. The team’s outstanding performance in shooting and track and field events played a significant role in their success.

The competition concluded with India already securing 95 medals and additional medals were assured in compound archery, kabaddi, badminton, and men’s cricket. On the final day of the games, India added four more medals in archery, while the women’s kabaddi team’s victory over Chinese Taipei in the final brought India to the coveted 100-medal mark.

Among the notable achievements was the women’s table tennis team’s bronze medal, won by Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee, who defeated China in the semifinals. Parul Chaudhary’s impressive performance in the women’s 5000m event, where she clinched gold in a close finish, will also be remembered as a remarkable feat.

Another standout moment was javelin thrower Kishore Kumar Jena’s throw of 86.77m, which briefly surpassed superstar Neeraj Chopra in the men’s javelin event. Although Chopra eventually secured the gold, Jena’s performance earned him a silver medal.

The achievements of athletes like canoers Arjun Singh and Sunil Singh Salam, who won a historic bronze in the men’s double 1000m, and Ram Baboo and Manju Rani, who finished third in the mixed 35km race walk, exemplify the resilience and determination of Indian athletes.

With their exceptional performance in various disciplines, the Indian contingent has demonstrated that with determination and perseverance, excelling in sports is possible.
