Janata Dal United (JDU) MLA Gopal Mandal created a stir when reporters questioned him about why he had brought a revolver to a hospital. In a fit of anger, Mandal exclaimed, “Baap ho ki mana karoge?” which roughly translates to “Are you my father that you will stop me?”
The MLA admitted to brandishing his weapon, stating, “Tum log humare baap ho ki mana karoge? (Are you our fathers that you will stop us?)” He made these remarks during a heated conversation with reporters in Patna on Friday.
Furthermore, Mandal was heard using derogatory language towards the journalists present. However, he initially tried to downplay the situation by claiming that his revolver accidentally slipped from his pyjamas.
“I had taken the revolver and kept it in my pyjama. Just when I placed my foot on the stairs, it slipped. Are you journalists or what? I find it difficult to place it on my waist,” he explained.
A video surfaced online showing the JDU MLA allegedly carrying a pistol while entering Bihar’s Bhagalpur’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital. This incident has given the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fresh ammunition to criticize the Nitish Kumar-led government for the prevailing “jungle raj” (reign of crime) in the state.
