The Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, was stopped from entering a gurdwara in Scotland by Khalistani extremists. According to a viral video on social media, a pro-Khalistan activist blocked Mr Doraiswami from entering the Glasgow Gurdwara on Albert Drive. The video shows two men near the High Commissioner’s car attempting to open the locked car door. The high commissioner’s car then leaves the gurdwara premises. The incident occurred after Canada accused India of involvement in the killing of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The Indian High Commissioner was invited by the gurdwara managing committee, and a longer version of the video shows the Khalistani extremists threatening the gurudwara staff. The Indian government has not yet reacted, but sources say a police complaint has been filed due to concerns about the high commissioner’s security. Tensions between India and Canada have been escalating since Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised concerns about rising secessionist activities in Canada during a 2018 bilateral meeting. In response, India reportedly gave Trudeau a list of nine Khalistani operatives.
