India’s star batter Shubman Gill is suspected to be suffering from dengue ahead of their opening match of the Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia on Sunday. If Gill is ruled out, Ishan Kishan could open the innings. The BCCI has not confirmed the nature of the illness, but the medical team is closely monitoring Gill. India head coach Rahul Dravid provided an update, stating that Gill is feeling better. The medical team has not ruled him out yet and will continue to monitor his condition. Gill, who is India’s most prolific batter in ODIs, is reportedly down with high fever and will be tested for dengue on Friday. If confirmed, he could miss a couple of games as recovery from dengue usually takes 7-10 days. However, if there is a significant drop in his platelet count, it could take longer. Gill’s absence could be a setback for the Indian team as he has formed a successful opening partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma.
