Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has denied the allegations made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that his government has encroached temples in the state. PM Modi had suggested financial irregularities and claimed that the Tamil Nadu government was looting temple wealth. Dismissing these claims, Stalin stated that certain individuals were trying to exploit spiritualism for political gain. He strongly condemned the Prime Minister’s allegations and questioned how someone in a responsible position could make such false and defamatory statements. Stalin also criticized a Tamil newspaper for publishing the Prime Minister’s “lie”. He highlighted the efforts his government has made to reclaim temple land and mentioned various temple renovation projects. Stalin criticized the Prime Minister for creating a false narrative and questioned why he was discussing another state while addressing the people of Telangana. He also criticized those who exploit spiritualism for political purposes, asserting that the people of Tamil Nadu can discern between politics and spirituality. The BJP has consistently advocated against government control over temples. Currently, the Tamil Nadu government oversees the administration of 46,086 Hindu and Jain temples, including those with significant annual incomes.
