One person died while trying to rescue a cat that had fallen into an open well near Patia railway station in Bhubaneswar. The incident occurred on Wednesday when a 50-year-old ice cream seller, Sibaram Sahoo, jumped into the abandoned well after seeing the cat fall inside. Unfortunately, both Sibaram Sahoo and the cat drowned in the well.

Witnesses saw Sibaram Sahoo jump into the well and when he did not resurface, two other individuals attempted to rescue him. However, they became ill inside the well and had to be saved by fire service personnel who were called to the scene. The two individuals were then rushed to the hospital, where doctors have reported that their conditions are stable.

Meanwhile, Sibaram Sahoo’s body was recovered from the well. While it is believed that he died due to asphyxiation, an official at the hospital stated that the exact cause of death will only be determined after a post-mortem examination.

Sibaram Sahoo’s brother, Bhajaman, explained, “I entered the well to help Sibaram, but had to quickly come out as I was unable to breathe properly due to the gas inside.” Sibaram Sahoo, who hailed from Ganjam district, is survived by his two daughters, according to his family.
