A school teacher in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested for promoting communal hatred after allegedly instructing a Muslim student to slap a Hindu classmate for failing to answer a question. The incident occurred at a private school in Dugawar village, and the teacher, Shaista, was booked under IPC sections 153A and 323 based on a complaint filed by the father of the Hindu boy. The accused teacher has been arrested. The father claimed that his son, a class 5 student, was slapped by a Muslim student at the teacher’s command, which hurt his son’s religious sentiments. A similar incident occurred in Khubbapur village last month, where a teacher had a Muslim child slapped by classmates for not doing homework. The Supreme Court expressed concern about discrimination in education based on religion and instructed the UP government to conduct a thorough investigation into the Muzaffarnagar case.
