Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya was among the residents of Delhi who hurriedly left their homes and offices on Tuesday afternoon after strong tremors shook the capital and parts of northern India. The first of the four earthquakes, measuring 4.6 and 6.2 magnitudes, struck Nepal within minutes of each other, followed by two more of 3.6 and 3.1 magnitudes. The epicenter of the strongest earthquake was located 206 km southeast of Joshimath in Uttarakhand and 284 km north of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Although there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from Nepal, ANI shared visuals showing significant damage to buildings in Bajhang district. While there have been no reports of damage from the Indian side, there are reports of tremors in several parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Nepal, located in a highly active seismic zone, has experienced devastating earthquakes in the past, including a 7.8 magnitude quake in 2015 that claimed thousands of lives.
