India’s Shubman Gill will miss the team’s second Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan due to dengue fever, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Gill was unable to play in India’s opening match against Australia because of his ongoing fever. Ishan Kishan replaced him in the game, partnering with captain Rohit Sharma. The BCCI announced that Gill would not travel with the team to Delhi and would remain in Chennai under medical supervision. Despite not being 100 percent, Gill has not been ruled out yet, and the team is monitoring his condition daily. In Gill’s absence, Ishan is expected to open with Rohit against Afghanistan. Shreyas Iyer is also likely to feature in the middle-order for India’s second World Cup game.
