Former BJP MLA Sangeet Som has criticized Union minister Sanjeev Balyan’s suggestion of creating a separate state for western Uttar Pradesh, stating that it would turn the region into a “mini Pakistan.” Instead, Som believes that western UP should be merged with Delhi. His comments came in response to Balyan’s remarks that Meerut should be the capital of a separate state for western UP.
“Union minister Sanjeev Balyan has proposed the idea of making western UP a separate state. But this would not be beneficial for the future of western UP. If this happens, then western UP will become a mini Pakistan,” Som stated. He further expressed concerns about the increasing population of a particular community, suggesting that Hindus would become a minority if western UP becomes a separate state. While he acknowledged that the political scenario would change, he emphasized that such a region would not develop.
However, Som also proposed an alternative solution, suggesting that western UP should be incorporated into Delhi. “It would be better to take the initiative of merging western UP with Delhi,” he added.
During the International Jat Parliament held in Meerut, Union Minister Balyan had argued in favor of a separate state for western UP, with Meerut as its capital. He justified this demand based on the region’s population of eight crore and the distance of 750 kilometers to the high court.
