A buffalo in Maharashtra’s Washim district accidentally swallowed a gold ‘mangalsutra’ worth approximately Rs 1.5 lakh on Sunday. The incident occurred when a woman placed the jewelry on a plate filled with soybean and peanut peels before taking a bath. She then left the plate in front of the buffalo to eat while she did household chores.

After a few hours, the woman realized that the jewelry was missing. She remembered that she had placed the ‘mangalsutra’ in the fodder, suggesting that the buffalo had ingested it. She immediately informed her husband, who then contacted a veterinarian.

The veterinarian used a metal detector to confirm that the ‘mangalsutra’ was indeed in the buffalo’s stomach. The next day, a two-hour-long surgery was performed on the buffalo, resulting in 60-65 stitches. The veterinary team successfully retrieved the ornament from the buffalo’s stomach.

Balasaheb Kaundane, a health official from Washim, urged cattle owners to be cautious when feeding fodder to animals, ensuring that no foreign objects are present. He emphasized the importance of taking precautions to prevent such incidents.

The incident gained attention on social media, with a video showing the retrieval of the ‘mangalsutra’ from the buffalo’s stomach. The unusual occurrence amused many people online.

This unusual incident serves as a reminder to securely store valuable items and to exercise caution when feeding animals to prevent any mishaps.
