A lawyer representing Imran Khan, Pakistan’s former prime minister, has expressed concerns over Khan potentially being slow-poisoned to death while in jail. Naeem Panjutha, who also serves as Khan’s spokesman on legal affairs, stated that Khan is facing mental torture and his movements have been restricted. Panjutha further claimed that Khan had been transferred to a lower-class cell at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, with security personnel stationed outside. According to Panjutha, new methods are being used to try and break Khan. Panjutha has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court regarding Khan’s conditions in jail, and the hearing is scheduled for October 5th. Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, has also visited him recently. Khan was arrested on August 5th following his conviction in the Toshakhana case. He faces approximately 180 cases, primarily stemming from incidents that occurred after his removal from office in April of last year. The Islamabad High Court recently restored Khan’s bail in nine different cases, overturning the decisions of various trial courts.
