Even after the Israel-Gaza war, it will have a lasting impact on a generation of young children. Some have been taken hostage, orphaned, or witnessed the murder of their loved ones. One such child is Daria, who saw her father and his partner killed by Hamas operatives while she and her brother hid in fear. A video posted on Israel’s official Twitter account shows Daria recounting the horrifying experience. Daria and her brother had gone to visit their father and his partner in the kibbutz of Reim when Hamas launched a massive attack on Israel. Daria recalls her father waking her up and arming himself with an axe and a knife. She went back to sleep and woke up to see her father and his partner running towards the terrorists. Daria witnessed her father being shot but couldn’t see what happened to his partner. She managed to send a message to her mother, informing her of the tragedy. Daria also noticed that the killers had left a message on the wall using her father’s partner’s lipstick. The message stated that the Al-Qassam people do not harm children. Dvir and Stav died trying to protect Daria and her brother. Another child, Nitai, shared his experience of feeling nauseous and vomiting during the attacks. He described seeing death itself and sending messages to his loved ones, fearing it would be their last goodbye. Nitai now struggles with anxiety and insomnia, constantly seeing the terrorists in his mind. The war has resulted in thousands of deaths, and there are concerns that Israel is planning a ground invasion of Gaza. Meanwhile, basic resources and humanitarian aid are being withheld from Gaza until Hamas releases the hostages they are holding.
