Cricket is reportedly set to be included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic programme. Alongside flag football, baseball, and softball, cricket’s inclusion in the Olympics is expected to be confirmed at the 141st International Olympic Committee session in Mumbai on October 15. The International Cricket Council (ICC) expressed its delight at LA28 organizing committee’s recommendation for cricket’s inclusion at the Summer Games. Cricket has only been played in the Olympics once before, in Paris in 1900. Lacrosse and squash are also being considered as additional sports for the 2028 Summer Games. The inclusion of cricket in the Olympics will open up a lucrative market in the Asian sub-continent, particularly in India, where the sport has a huge following. The value of the IOC broadcast deal in India is expected to increase significantly if cricket is included in the 2028 edition. The decision regarding cricket’s inclusion will be made at the IOC Session in India during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next week.
