Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma achieved a historic milestone during the Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan. Rohit surpassed West Indies legend Chris Gayle to become the player with the most number of sixes in international cricket across all formats.

In the match held in New Delhi, Rohit smashed three massive sixes, taking his total sixes tally to 554. This surpassed Gayle’s record of 553 sixes in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is combined. Only former Indian captain MS Dhoni, with 359 sixes, joins Rohit in the top 10 list of players with the most sixes while representing India and Asia XI.

Rohit showcased his batting prowess by scoring a brilliant half-century in just 30 deliveries. His exceptional form contributed significantly to India’s performance in the match.

Meanwhile, in the same game, Afghanistan’s Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai both scored half-centuries, enabling Afghanistan to reach a total of 272-8. Opting to bat first at New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, Afghanistan aimed to replicate the high-scoring match that took place previously, where South Africa posted 428 runs to defeat Sri Lanka.

With a crowd of 40,000 spectators filling the stadium, the match was highly anticipated, particularly for Indian cricketer and Delhi native Virat Kohli. However, it was Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah who stole the show with remarkable World Cup bowling figures of 4-39. Despite a shaky start, Afghanistan recovered thanks to Shahidi’s 80 runs and Omarzai’s 62 runs partnership of 121 runs.
