Bahujan Samaj Party MP Kunwar Danish Ali has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to speak out and take action against BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri for his Islamophobic rant in Parliament. Ali denied allegations made by another BJP MP that he had used casteist terms against the PM, stating that it was actually Bidhuri who used inappropriate language towards the PM. Ali asked the PM to condemn Bidhuri’s behavior and remind all members to uphold parliamentary decorum. He also called for Bidhuri to be held accountable and for strengthened security arrangements due to threats he has received. Both the BJP and the opposition have filed complaints with Parliament’s Privileges Committee regarding this incident. Opposition anger increased when it was revealed that the BJP had sent Bidhuri to lead their campaign in Rajasthan, seen by many as an attempt to remove him from the spotlight. Ali described the incident as shameful and expressed his hope that the BJP would take appropriate action. The face-off between Bidhuri and Ali occurred during a discussion on India’s Chandrayaan-3 Moon mission in the Lok Sabha.
