Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri, a 17-year-old girl died after receiving the wrong injection from a doctor at a private hospital. The hospital staff then allegedly dumped her body on a motorcycle outside and fled without informing the girl’s family of her death. The family is now seeking justice while the doctor and hospital staff remain on the run.

The incident has sparked public anger, with a viral video showing the lifeless girl lying on the motorcycle outside the hospital. Bharti, the victim, was taken to the Radha Swami Hospital on Karhal Road in Ghiror area after developing a fever. Her aunt, Manisha, said that Bharti was “absolutely fine” on Wednesday but her condition took a turn for the worse after receiving the injection. The doctor advised taking her to a different hospital, claiming they couldn’t do anything to help, but Bharti was already dead when they sought this advice.

As a result of the incident, the District’s Chief Medical Officer ordered the hospital’s closure after discovering that it lacked both doctors and administrative staff. The hospital was registered, but the operator, who was not a doctor, had their license revoked. UP Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, in charge of the state’s health department, has ordered action against the private hospital.

The family alleges that instead of arranging for Bharti to be transferred to another hospital, the staff brought her outside and then fled. Chief Medical Officer RC Gupta stated that she died shortly after being removed from the hospital. The Chief Medical Officer and additional CMO have been instructed to conduct a thorough investigation and submit their report within a week. The minister has also stated that the hospital’s registration will be revoked and a police report will be filed.

In a similar incident earlier this month, Amethi’s Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, run by a trust led by Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, faced action from the administration following a patient’s death due to alleged negligence. Congress and Samajwadi Party workers protested for the hospital’s reopening, with the matter eventually going to court.

This incident in Mainpuri highlights the need for accountability in the healthcare system. The girl’s tragic death calls for swift action and ensures that such incidents are not tolerated in any circumstances. A thorough investigation and appropriate legal actions are vital to provide justice to the victim and her family.
