External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties. The meeting took place amid a diplomatic row between India and Canada over the killing of a Khalistani separatist. Jaishankar expressed gratitude to the US for their support during the G20 Summit. Blinken acknowledged the positive discussions they have had and expressed his anticipation for further talks. The agenda of the meeting remains undisclosed, but it is expected that the recent diplomatic crisis between the two countries will be addressed. The US has urged India to cooperate with the Canadian investigation into the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Trudeau has accused the Indian government of involvement in Nijjar’s assassination, while India has rejected the allegations as baseless. Jaishankar also met with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and US Trade Representative Katherine Tie to discuss bilateral relations and economic ties. During his visit, Jaishankar will hold several meetings with senior officials of the Biden administration to review progress made between the two countries and discuss regional and global issues.
