Meerut: A coaching centre teacher in Meerut was arrested on charges of being an arms smuggler after a pistol was allegedly planted on his motorcycle by a policeman. The incident was caught on CCTV camera, but even with visual evidence, the man’s release was delayed.

The teacher’s family had an ongoing dispute with another family in the area. Two constables, allegedly at the request of the other family, planted the pistol as evidence and arrested the teacher. The constables have since been transferred to police lines and an investigation is underway.

On Tuesday evening, two police constables entered Ankit Tyagi’s house, a coaching centre teacher in Kharkhoda, Meerut district. CCTV footage shows one of the constables planting what appears to be a pistol on a bike parked inside the house. They then apprehended Ankit, who was studying at the time, and proceeded to “recover” the pistol from the bike.

Ankit was taken to the Kharkhoda police station, where the constables claimed they had recovered the pistol from him. He was arrested for arms smuggling. Ankit’s sister, Rakhi, went to the office of the Meerut inspector general of police with the video footage and pleaded to be allowed to show it to him. However, her request was denied, and she spent the entire night outside the IG’s house in hopes of an audience with him.

Rakhi was finally allowed to meet the IG around 11 am the next day. She filed a complaint, presented the video, and Ankit was released afterwards. SP (Rural) Kamlesh Bahadur Singh stated that there were suspicions regarding the behavior of the policemen and an investigation is being conducted.
