New Delhi: Israeli Ambassador to India, Naor Gilon, praised the support of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that so many Indians volunteered to assist Israel that they could almost form another unit of the Israel Defence Force (IDF). He also commended PM Modi for being one of the first global leaders to clearly condemn the terrorist attack. Expressing his gratitude for the support from India, Gilon emphasized the deep and emotional relationship between India and Israel. He mentioned that the level of support received, not only from the government but also from regular Indians, was unprecedented and mentioned the strong presence on social media of volunteers willing to fight for Israel. Gilon also mentioned that during the ongoing situation in Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu updated PM Modi on the developments and PM Modi expressed India’s solidarity with Israel. The death toll in Israel has risen to 1,300, with over 3,300 injured since the Hamas attack on October 7. The fate of approximately 150 people abducted during the attack is still unclear. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the Israeli Defence Forces, has informed families of 97 hostages held in the Gaza Strip.
