New Delhi: The founder and Editor-in-Chief of NewsClick, Prabir Purkayastha, and Human Resources Head Amit Chakravarty have been sent to seven days of police remand after their arrest on Tuesday. The Delhi Police arrested them following raids at their office under various sections, including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). A total of 37 male suspects and nine female suspects have been questioned in connection with the case. The police have seized digital devices and documents for examination. The investigation also involves writers Paranjoy Guha Thakurta and Urmilesh, who were brought to the special cell offices in Delhi. The office of NewsClick has been sealed by the Delhi Police’s Special Cell. The raids, conducted at more than 30 locations, are related to a case registered in August, which includes charges of promoting enmity between groups and criminal conspiracy. NewsClick was previously accused of being part of a global network that receives funding from American billionaire Neville Roy Singham, who is associated with far-left causes and the Chinese government’s media machine.
