The Indian contingent at the Asian Games 2023 has surpassed its previous record of 70 medals. The archery pair of Ojas Pravin and Jyothi Surekha won the gold medal in the mixed team compound final, defeating the South Korean pair. In the 2018 Games, India had secured a total of 70 medals – 16 gold, 23 silver, and 31 bronze. However, in the current event, the Indian team has already obtained 71 medals, including 16 gold, 26 silver, and 29 bronze, with more medals expected in other events. Shooting and archery have proven to be India’s most successful events at the Asian Games. The Indian shooters have won 22 medals, while athletics has earned the country 23 medals. Indian race walkers Manju Rani and Ram Baboo won a bronze medal in the 35km mixed race walk event, helping India match its performance from the 2018 Jakarta Games. The compound archery team of Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam added to India’s medal tally by winning the mixed team gold medal. India’s chef de mission, Bhupender Singh Bajwa, expressed great pleasure at India’s impressive performance, stating that there are more medals to come. India has sent its largest-ever contingent to the Games with the goal of crossing the 100-medal mark. Currently, India has 16 gold, 26 silver, and 29 bronze medals, with four more days of competition remaining.
