A 13-year-old girl from a village in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district was found dead after allegedly being beaten up by a neighbour for stealing a marigold sapling. The girl’s parents had asked the neighbour to look after her while they were in Bhubaneswar. The police recovered the girl’s body and arrested the neighbour. According to the police, the girl had uprooted some plants from the neighbour’s house, and when the neighbour found out, she beat the girl. The girl was later found hanging in the verandah of her house. The parents accused the neighbour of causing their daughter’s death, and the police are investigating the incident. The body has been handed over to the parents after the autopsy.
