Questioning the Ashok Gehlot government’s performance on law and order, Prime Minister Narendra Modi referenced the grisly 2022 murder of a tailor in Udaipur. PM Modi highlighted the shocking nature of the crime, where a customer had his throat slit and the act was recorded and shared online. The tailor had received threats for supporting Nupur Sharma, a former BJP spokesperson who was removed from the party after controversial comments. PM Modi made these remarks during a rally in Chittorgarh, where he also laid the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 7,000 crore in the state. He criticized the Congress government in Rajasthan, accusing them of misleading the public and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot of prioritizing his own interests. He also addressed the infighting within the Congress party and assured that the BJP will not halt any public schemes but instead aim to improve them. PM Modi responded to the question of who will be the BJP’s face for the assembly polls by asserting that the BJP symbol, the lotus, is their face and candidate. He made it clear that no Chief Minister candidate will be announced in advance. PM Modi further criticized the Congress government in Rajasthan for the crimes against women and the alleged corruption in the state government’s job recruitment exams. He promised to thoroughly investigate the paper leak and take action against those involved in corruption.
