Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma achieved another incredible milestone in his esteemed career by becoming the first Indian batsman to hit 300 sixes in One-Day International (ODI) cricket. During the Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, Rohit showcased excellent form and reached this milestone with his fourth six of the innings. This puts him in the company of West Indies legend Chris Gayle and former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi as the only batters to have achieved this feat. Additionally, Rohit surpassed MS Dhoni, who has hit 229 sixes, to become the second-highest Indian in terms of sixes in ODIs.
The match between India and Pakistan saw Pakistan being bowled out for just 191 runs. After a solid start, Pakistan lost their openers before captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan attempted to rebuild their innings with a partnership of 82 runs. Despite Azam reaching his fifty off 57 balls, he was dismissed in the following over by Mohammed Siraj. Kuldeep Yadav then took two wickets in one over, sending back Saud Shakeel and Iftikhar Ahmed, to further damage Pakistan’s innings. Jasprit Bumrah also contributed with crucial wickets, denying Rizwan his fifty and dismissing Shadab Khan for two. Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja combined to wrap up Pakistan’s tail.
Speaking at the innings break, Yadav expressed his satisfaction with the World Cup tournament so far and explained his strategy of varying his pace and using variations on the slower pitch.
Overall, it was a dominant performance by the Indian cricket team, demonstrating their strength and skill in both batting and bowling.
