Cricket fans worldwide eagerly await the start of the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 on October 5. The opening match will see defending champions England facing off against New Zealand, the first runners-up of the 2019 World Cup, in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, the host nation India will kick off their campaign against Australia on October 8 in Chennai. Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has chosen England as his favorites to win the upcoming World Cup, citing their strong bowling lineup and the presence of three “world-class all-rounders” who can be game-changers. Gavaskar made these remarks during a discussion on Star Sports.

On the other hand, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan expressed his support for Team India and believes they are “ticking all the boxes” to be one of the favorites to win the ICC trophy. Pathan highlighted India’s strong performances in recent series, including the Asia Cup and their home series against Australia. He praised the team’s balance and depth, noting the presence of players like Mohammed Shami, who is not a consistent part of the playing 11 but is still a world-class bowler.

Before the World Cup, Team India will play their first warm-up match against England on Saturday in Guwahati.
