Rachin Ravindra impressed in the Cricket World Cup 2023 opener as he guided New Zealand to victory over England. Promoted to bat at No.3 in the absence of Kane Williamson, the 23-year-old scored an unbeaten century, smashing 123 runs off just 93 deliveries. His partnership with Devon Conway ensured England had no chance of making a comeback. Ravindra’s name is a tribute to Indian cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, with his father being a fan of both players. He began his cricketing journey early and represented New Zealand in the U-19 World Cup in 2016 and 2018. He made his T20I debut in 2021 and soon after made his Test and ODI debuts in 2023. In the Cricket World Cup match against Pakistan, Ravindra impressed with a brilliant knock of 97 runs. England, batting first, made 282-9, a total that New Zealand easily chased down with 13.4 overs to spare, thanks to a remarkable unbeaten partnership of 273 runs between Conway and Ravindra.
