Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has indicated that air raids against Hamas will not completely dismantle its structure, and a ground attack is necessary. In a conversation with US President Joe Biden, Netanyahu stated, “We have to go in,” Axios reported. Netanyahu further explained that Israel has no choice but to unleash a ground operation in Gaza due to the hostage situation, according to three Israeli and US sources briefed on the call. Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Fleur Hassan Nahoum echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the value Israel places on the lives of its citizens and the need to prioritize their release. She also highlighted the significance of a ground operation, citing the success of Operation Entebbe in 1976, where over 100 Jewish hostages were rescued. This operation, led by Prime Minister Netanyahu’s brother Yonatan (Yoni) Netanyahu, is a blueprint for Israel in dealing with hostage situations. Currently, the Israeli authorities have no exact number of citizens abducted near Gaza, but reports estimate it to be around 130. Nahoum stated that Israel should do everything it can to secure the release of its innocent citizens, even if it means considering a prisoner exchange with Hamas. She expressed the belief that Israel should prioritize the value of life and take necessary measures to bring back their innocent citizens. However, Nahoum clarified that this is her personal opinion and she cannot speak on behalf of the government.
