Shashi Tharoor Reacts to South African Cricketers’ Struggle with ‘Thiruvananthapuram’

The South African cricket team has arrived in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala for the Cricket World Cup 2023. However, their struggle to pronounce the city’s name has become a viral sensation on social media. South African cricketers were captured in a video shared by politician Shashi Tharoor, attempting to say ‘Thiruvananthapuram’ but struggling with the pronunciation. While some players like Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, and Lungi Ngidi managed to get it right, others like Heinrich Klaasen couldn’t. Klaasen eventually settled for the easier-to-pronounce name of the old city, Trivandrum. The World Cup warm-up match between South Africa and Afghanistan in Thiruvananthapuram was abandoned due to heavy rain. The Proteas will hope for better weather conditions before their final warm-up match against New Zealand on Monday.
